There are two questions in there really: Why did I name the company Egret and why might Egret be the right choice for you?
I’m fortunate to have a house on a secluded stretch of river in the Southwest of England. Each summer we are visited by little egrets – snowy white members of the heron family about the size of a chicken. They’re more at home in warmer climates and are usually just passing visitors to the UK.
But each year, as they began to trust the tranquillity of this stretch of river, they began to raise broods and stay the whole year round. This stretch of river is evidently rather special to them now and I’ve never lost my feeling of privilege to be able to share their hidden Eden.
Finding clarity of thought
During my busy and challenge-filled years as a leader of a large international medical technology business I’d often take ten minutes to re-order my thoughts and gain clarity by going out and sitting on the river.
Spending time watching those elegant little birds catching fish and going about their lives gave me the space to look more deeply and to ask myself the right questions. I’d come back into the house with a new thought and a refreshed vision about what needed to happen at work.
So, when it came to finding a name for my coaching and mentoring services – peaceful but focused sessions to help busy people to reestablish control and find clarity of thought – my riverside communing with the egrets immediately came to mind.
